About

Why Therapy Now?

You have become so tired of yourself and how things are going that you want a way out.

Therapy is about asking important questions of yourself; it is a courageous process of going inward. It can be intimidating – believe me I realize this! It makes sense that you’ve waited this long.

But waiting longer only fuels old patterns which can make you more stuck. If not now, then when?

“I don’t want to deal with it.”

(But it’s not going away).

With change comes discomfort.

The first session is one filled with reflections on hearing yourself say out loud things you might not have discussed with anyone.

Future sessions involve learning to ‘till the soil’ – we need fertile ground in your mind and nervous system for the seeds of awareness to grow.

We will continue to collaborate on small, achievable goals and practices that help you address yourself and your life differently.

We’ll address this discomfort in sessions.

You’ll learn strategies you can employ to understand your emotions and grow toward a more meaningful life.

With my 20 years of experience, I am very respectful to not force people into places they aren’t ready to travel.

I meet you with gentleness for your courage.

Together, we’ll practice showing yourself kindness. Even about the hard things that got you to this place.

I work to have you see and become the best version of yourself.

We do this on your timing.

Many people come to focus on a few specific goals and leave feeling healthier and wiser.

Others want to dive deep, to work through the destructive patterns that have left them feeling unfulfilled.

Why therapy with me?

Many of the people who seek my services have had therapeutic experiences that were anything but therapeutic. They describe feeling a sense of relief during the session; but soon after, the feeling went away leaving no long-term benefits.

My goal is for you to integrate and understand the parts of yourself so that your past does not haunt your present.

I have a proven track record (and 20 years’ experience) promoting growth, healing and change.

How therapy with me works.

Past clients say that my knowledge of neuroscience combined with moment-to-moment awareness of how the nervous system is linked to thoughts have deepened how they live their lives.

You hold inside storylines, beliefs, and assumptions about yourself and your history. You will learn strategies you can employ to understand your emotions and grow toward a more meaningful life.

Therapy is helpful in shifting how you might ‘hold’ a story; our neural circuits are primed to adapt and re-wire. Even as you are reading this sentence about therapy, your brain is working to form new circuits and grow new patterns. We work on this practice together.

Now is the time to act.

You don’t need to have all the answers. We start exactly where you are and proceed from there.

You just need to show up for yourself.

My therapy practice is influenced by:

Life experiences

I have learned life’s cruel and joyful moments can be the best teachers of all.
Without those experiences, I wouldn’t be me, and I wouldn’t have grown.

I believe the most important lessons are those that gut you to the core and wake you up.

There aren’t many people who wouldn’t delete some portion of their lives if they could. I meet you in this place of non-judgment.

Nature Observation

As often as possible, going to the woods is one of my personal forms of therapy. Bird watching and animal tracking is similar to the work we do in session: Exploring what is there, seeing without judgment how things are and have come to be.

It helps me awaken to each moment, to each sound and pattern, and teaches me the importance of gratitude.

My 25-Year Meditation Practice

I find meditation essential to establishing a foundation and anchor. I have learned to watch the phenomena of my mind and the impermanence of my emotions.

I notice that my clients who start to devote more time to their own meditation practice find that they progress more in therapy, while simultaneously expending less energy on things that might have previously destroyed them.

Creativity

My 25 years with hands in clay as a potter have taught me how to notice when I am attached to a certain outcome and practice letting go, over and over again.

My Professional Experiences

Over the 20 years I have been working as a psychotherapist, I have developed specialties working with those who struggle with integrating their past into their present resulting in anxiety or depression.

I am passionate about this work and am very focused on making sure you don’t feel like you are wasting your time, so I pursue continual education about the science and research on what works.

I genuinely love what I do. I want you to find the best version of yourself and will give you practices to develop healing from within.

I see therapy as a craft promoting lasting and meaningful changes with how you feel in your body and how you approach the choices you make for yourself daily.
