FAQs

Where is your office located?

3539 North Williams Avenue Portland, OR 97227-1437

Just north of Williams and Fremont, two buildings from New Seasons Market.

My office is one floor up, but the building does not have an elevator; as such, I am unable to accommodate those who cannot make it safely up the stairs.

Where do I park?

Both free parking behind the building as well as street parking are available.

How can I make an appointment?

Please either write to me at teresa@teresazed.com with your name, contact information, and a brief message about what brings you to therapy.

Or call me directly/leave a message with the same information at (503) 860-2233.

I’ll get back to you within 24 hours (usually much sooner) to arrange a time to meet and answer any questions you have.

I can normally schedule your first appointment within 7 days of your call.

What are sessions like?

The first session is about what brings you in, what you’ve already tried, what has and hasn’t worked, and specific goals or thoughts you have in starting therapy.

There’s something powerful about hearing your own voice say out loud that you’d like your life to be different.

Together, we’ll focus on opening you to options you may not realize, understanding how your past influences your present, and making wise choices about your future.

Previous clients have described me as “a balance between being clear, direct, and compassionate with offering both the science along with awareness – and practices that can ultimately transform how we relate to ourselves and our worlds.”

Do you give homework?

If you like, I am happy to give you specific practices, discuss the neuroscience of how change is happening and how to maximize your time in therapy to see changes in your life.

My hope is that you are transforming each week – and moving closer to living a life in congruence with what matters to you over time.

How you live your life and embody the changes is the true practice.

You’ll start noticing your relationship within yourself will begin to change.

You’ll start developing self-compassion, becoming more accepting of yourself and others, doing things that would have been a challenge in the past.

What is your fee? Do you take insurance?

I take insurance and am paneled with Pacific Source and Aetna.

As a Licensed provider in the State of Oregon and Washington, I am also considered an out-of-network provider for other networks and can offer you a superbill to give to your insurance. You’ll need to consult with your individual network to see if they will reimburse you.

If you either do not want to involve insurance (we can talk more about pros/cons of this) and/or have a type of insurance that I do not accept, my fee per hour is $140.

How long does therapy last?

As your therapist, my goal is that you ultimately become your own “inner therapist” over time, that you internalize and enact in your life what we discuss in session.

We’ll touch base after each session to make sure that the therapy is effective and working for you. This may mean you’re experiencing some discomfort as you are unfolding into territories that might not be familiar with you.

I like to start with seeing people each week if it works for your schedule, as frequent sessions allow us to maximize the momentum of the change process.

We then typically scale back after you notice you are less symptomatic and more engaged in your life process.

Tell me more about the Mindfulness Practice Groups.

My goal with these groups is to help both the beginning practitioner (meaning anyone, especially those curious and who have never tried meditation) to long-standing meditators three important things:

  1. A comfortable, nurturing space to practice
  2. Inspiration and guidance in doing so
  3. Connection of mindfulness to living an intentional life.
