Grief and Loss

“Grief is a universal response to death and loss, built into our neurological systems. The first phase is not about moving on but about being broken. Healing through grief doesn’t start when we give up feeling bad; it begins with the agony of loss. In the alchemy of grief, going down always precedes coming up. Grief is an opportunity for transformation, a wholly new awareness of reality, self, beloved and world.”

– Miriam Greenspan, in Healing Through the Dark Emotions

It doesn’t simply “go away.”

More than any other time, seeking therapy while experiencing the grief process can be humbling, as our avoidance and numb patterns try to sink in.

Grief isn’t necessarily only about coping with death; it’s about loss, and even seemingly small losses or changes can trigger sadness that is difficult to name.

Something shifts internally.

You think if you don’t talk about it, the sadness will magically just go away.

And sometimes it feels like it does – temporarily.

But then it comes back like an avalanche, as the life you thought you had unraveled before your eyes.

Unfortunately, unresolved grief doesn’t go away – it sinks into the body. And, understandably, you use distractions to avoid dealing with your feelings as the emotions seem too painful to bear.

Coping with difficult emotions.

When you’re ready (or even if you’re not sure), I meet you in a space without judgment. I help you bear the sadness, loss, and grief.

I won’t make you talk about anything that feels uncomfortable.

Together, we work to help you understand your relationship to your grief and how to be with it differently. We’ll develop ways to understand the loss and sadness – strategies to guide, heal, and transform your life.

I’ll teach you strategies to cope with challenging emotions, so you don’t feel overwhelmed. It is a deep experience, and I welcome the honor to be with you during these moments.

Embrace your grief – and transform.
